PROFILE

Born in Edinburgh, Allan Wells began his athletic career as a triple and long jumper. While enjoying moderate success, it wasn't until he changed to become a sprinter at the age of 24 that his career took off.

In 1980 he won a Gold medal in the Olympic Games 100m and a Silver medal in the 200m. Although these Olympics were marred by the withdrawal of the Americans, Allan took the Americans on in a race over 100m in Koblenz and beat them there instead!

In 1981 Allan won honours in the World Cup, Gold and Silver, Europa Cup Gold and Silver and won the Coveted Golden Sprints. In 1982 Allan took a double Gold at the Commonwealth Games winning the 100m, the 200m and a Bronze in the 4 x 100m relay. Later that year he was also awarded the M.B.E. for services to sport.
