PROFILECharlie started running at the age of 11 after being spotted by Mick Woods at a District Schools cross country competition. She immediately joined Aldershot & Farnham District Athletics Club and has been guided by Mick ever since. Charlie is currently living and training at St Mary’s University in Twickenham, and studying History although she regularly travels back to Aldershot for training sessions. Charlie was Great Britain’s first junior finisher at the World Cross Country championships in Kenya at the age of 15 in 2007. Since then she has continued to improve and finished 16th at the world cross country in Edinburgh in 2008 and 14th in Jordan in 2009. She also finished 3rd at the European junior cross country championships in Toro in 2007, 2nd in Brussels in 2008 and after missing the championships in 2009 won the European Junior Cross Country Championships in 2010! 2010 was a great year for Charlie on the track, setting PB’s in every distance she ran despite having missed the whole winter season of 2009-2010 due to a knee injury. Charlie broke a British Junior 10,000m record at a BMC meeting in Tipton and followed this up with another record in the BMC British 5,000m, running 15.23.4. Following this result she was selected to run in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi where, running both the 5,000m and 10,000m finishing 6th and 4th. In 2011 she made an impressive start to her senior career finishing 4th place in the 2011 BUPA Great Edinburgh Cross Country. Unfortunately injury soon followed and Charlie required a knee operation in May which wrecked her track season. However, she now is back on target to realising her massive potential after claiming second a the BUPA Great Endinburgh Run in a time of 32:58. Charlie is thoroughly looking forward to taking on the worlds best at the London 2012 Olympics. |
