PROFILEZara was born and bred on the south-coast of England in Dorset. Whilst always being a sporty student she excelled at indoor volleyball and has been playing indoor and beach volleyball for Great Britain since 2002. She left school and home to pursue her studies and wished to study Law at the University of Sheffield. She continued to juggle volleyball and her degree. During the time of her degree the London 2012 Olympics were announced and her desire to represent Great Britain in her home country for volleyball was immense. Upon completion of her degree, this fueled her to move to Bath to become part of the UK Sport funded Great Britain program which involves training daily in the UK and abroad and preparing to compete internationally during the beach volleyball season. She completed a Masters in International Development at the University of Bath and as 2012 draws nearer she is focusing 100% on the Olympics and improving her volleyball. She is now a professional beach volleyball player competing on the FIVB World Tour aspiring to represent the home nation in the London 2012 Olympic Games Zara had a successful Olympic games, ranked 34 going into the tournament, Zara and her teammate Shauna managed to upset the odds by getting out of the group stages before narrowly losing out in their last 16 match. Undoubtedly her highlight of the games was her fantastic performance in the first group stage match where team Dampney Mullin beat Canada by two sets to one in an atmsopshere at Horse Guards Parade that was one of the best at the whole Olympic games. After her first taste of Olympic action Zara is already focusing her mind on team Dampney Mullins bid for the Rio Olympics in 4 years time. |
