PROFILE

Mike was born in Southampton and educated at Peter Symonds College in Winchester and Wyvern College, Salisbury. At the age of eight Mike joined his local Rugby club's U8 team in Salisbury, from there he went on to represent Dorset and Wilshire at all age group's from U14s to U18s and also played for South West England U18s and Hampshire U20s.

In 2002 Mike was invited to train with the Harlequins Academy, he soon started to excel and made his 1st XV debut during the 2005/06 season in a pre-season friendly against London Irish. He was named Young Player of the Year before going on to be Player of the Year the following season.

The 2007/08 season saw Mike called up into the England Saxons squad, which was followed by a call up to the England squad in 2007 where he made his Test debut against South Africa on his first senior tour. The following summer he went to New Zealand and started the opening game at full back in Auckland.

Mike had a very successful 2010/11 season, which included a call up by the England Saxons for matches against A and Ireland A. He then went on to help England Saxons retain the Churchill Cup over the summer of 2011. On the domestic front he helped his club side Harlequins beat Stade Francais 19-18 in the Amlin Challenge Cup final and was voted the clubs' Players Player of the season.

His impressive club form carried on into the 2011/12 Aviva Premiership season helping Quins to reach the top of the Aviva Premiership table, scoring 11 tries in his first 21 matches including fives tries in five European (Heineken) Cup appearances. This form resulted in a call up to the England Performance Squad, and he is now vying for the England full back spot. Mike made two appearances in 2012 Six Nations, coming off the the bench against Scotland at Murrayfield and again against Wales at Twickenham.

Mike has had amassed a remarkable 61 tries in his 176 appearances. Last September he re-signed for Quins taking him to the 2014 season. He will surely be a key member of the England Squad as they prepare to win the Rugby World Cup on home turf in 2015.
